New Zealand Exporters Mission to Poland including participation in the World Food Fair in Warsaw

From the 11th to the 24th of April 2015

NEW ZEALAND PROJEKT WORLD FOOD 2015 Page 3

Introduction
Poland has one of the fastest growing economies in Europe and is also one of the biggest European markets. The country has a population of 38 million people, and in addition there are approximately 15 million Polish people living abroad.

Since 1989, when the centrally controlled communist market collapsed and was peacefully transformed into a free market economy, Poland has made unprecedented progress. It is now the sixth largest economic power in Europe and a leading regional economical and political force in Central and Eastern Europe. Poland was the only country in the EU to show positive economic growth during the European recession following the Global Financial Crisis.

During 26 years of transformation, billions of dollars were invested in infrastructure, technology and agriculture. Many global brands established their offices and factories in Warsaw, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Krakow and many other cities. German, Italian, Korean, Swedish and other car brands manufacture vehicles in Poland, while Polish companies are a significant manufacturer of train carriages in the global market.

The Polish banking system has become one of the most efficient, stable and trusted in Europe, while Poland’s national and private debt is significantly lower than other western economies.
Poland is an attractive market, offering huge potential now and in the future for New Zealand companies. Some New Zealand products can already be found in Poland, but the quantity of these products is not satisfactory. The potential is there to develop a multi-fold increase in the quantity of existing products that are exported to Poland, as well as the introduction of new products synonymous with New Zealand.

Poland is one of the biggest producers of milk, meat, crops, potatoes, temperate climate fruits, and tomatoes to name a few, but this market can digest more products especially in the higher end consumer segment -  an ideal situation taking New Zealand’s high quality food production into consideration.

Some New Zealand food products are completely unique and can be offered to Polish consumers with a near guarantee of demand and success. Products like New Zealand wines, powdered milk (especially infant formula), frozen mussels and oysters, Manuka honey and organic food would be easily absorbed by Polish consumers if some small effort is made by New Zealand companies. Thousands of supermarkets and smaller outlets give New Zealand exporters an opportunity to sell their products in Poland through a familiar and effective supply chain.

That is why we have prepared this Exporters Mission to Poland project, which consists of two parts:

1/ The creation of a “New Zealand Business Lounge” at the World Food Fair in Warsaw (14-16 April) – one of, if not the biggest expos of this kind in Poland. It would be the first time that such a presentation of New Zealand food products would be made in Poland.

2/ Separate business meetings in Cracow, Wroclaw or Gdansk with potential importers, local trade and industry organisations and other interested parties.

Travel arrangements, accommodation and intermediary services before and during the mission will be organised by Green Lite Travel.
